Tragic traffic accident claimed a life

A serious traffic accident occurred on Rosental-Straße on Tuesday. However, all help came too late for one driver. 

"We were called at 7.15 a.m. to a traffic accident with a trapped person on the B 85," explains Hubert Madritsch, fire department commander of the St. Jakob im Rosental fire department. Two cars had collided head-on.

"According to witnesses, the 84-year-old driver from the district of Villach Land first drove onto the right-hand side of the road and then into oncoming traffic," said the provincial police directorate. "The 84-year-old collided with an oncoming car driven by a 56-year-old woman from the district of Villach Land."

Deceased at the scene of the accident despite resuscitation attempts
When the fire department arrived at the scene of the accident, the two people had already been rescued from the wreckage by witnesses. Drivers following behind also provided first aid. "Together with the following emergency services, we resuscitated the person involved in the accident.

Despite our best efforts, the 84-year-old driver could not be rescued and died at the scene of the accident," Madritsch expresses his dismay. The 56-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was able to make her own way to Villach Regional Hospital. A complete closure of the B85 and a local detour were set up by the police.
