Top-class sport is hardly healthy - especially not downhill skiing. Former ski racer Pepi Strobl also had to make this painful experience when he had a serious accident during a training session in 2006. This put an end to the Tyrolean's career - and he redesigned his life. Unfortunately, it was not pain-free.
"There was too much pressure on my knee, so the cartilage almost burst and splintered," recalls the seven-time World Cup winner. "That also sealed the end of my career, because my leg was no longer one hundred percent. And top-class sport with pain is not possible." The Tyrolean adds with a smile: "And I was slowly getting too old for it." But after more than two decades of top-class sport, he was to get his revenge.
