Man (22) caught after fleeing on city highway

A 22-year-old man was arrested late on Sunday evening because he pressed the accelerator instead of stopping during a police check. The young man was driving on Vienna's Südosttangente (A23) in Donaustadt when he caught the officers' attention because his vehicle was emitting explosive noises from the exhaust. 

Despite hand signals and blue lights switched on, he did not comply with the request to stop, the police reported on Monday. 

What's more, he accelerated his car and drove away from the police. Other officers who were on patrol joined in the pursuit. During the 22-year-old's escape, he committed several administrative offenses and also endangered the police, some of whom were only able to save themselves by jumping to the side.

It was then over at Kaisermühlenstraße. The police managed to stop the fugitive. During the check, it came to light that the license plates on the Romanian's car were not registered to the vehicle. The man's driver's license was confiscated and he was taken into custody. He is being investigated on suspicion of resisting law enforcement.
