Russia withdraws workers from its Kursk nuclear power plant

Ukrainian troops are continuing to advance into Russia. The Kremlin is now withdrawing workers from the construction site for two new nuclear reactors at the Kursk nuclear power plant.

The number of construction workers will be temporarily reduced, announced the company Atomstrojeksport, a subsidiary of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom. The other skilled workers will continue working as planned. Two new reactors are being built at the nuclear power plant to replace the plant's two oldest units, which have already been decommissioned. Two further reactors are in operation.

According to Russian reports, there was a power outage near the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russia. The reason: a substation had been hit by debris from a Ukrainian drone, explained regional governor Alexei Smirnov:

The Kursk nuclear power plant in the city of Kurchatov is repeatedly mentioned as a possible target of the advance into Russian territory that began on Tuesday. Incidentally, it is one of Russia's largest nuclear power plants, but is located around 60 kilometers from the border. The furthest advances by Ukrainian troops, which were reported but not confirmed, reached a good 30 kilometers into Russia.

Control over a Gazprom plant
According to a video published by Ukrainian media, Ukrainian soldiers are said to have taken control of a Gazprom plant in the Russian region of Kursk. The plant in the city of Sudscha and the city itself were taken, Ukrainian soldiers stated in the recording. Reuters has not yet been able to verify this information.
