Opel plunged 70 meters over embankment: dog died

Early on Sunday morning, a driver in the district of Lilienfeld (Lower Austria) drove off the Schwarzenbachstraße in the direction of Türnitz on a wet road. The Opel vehicle plunged around 70 meters down the slope. The two occupants survived, but a dog died at the scene of the accident.

The occupants of the completely destroyed wreck in Lower Austria must have had several guardian angels. The fact that there were any survivors at all after the devastating accident was not immediately apparent when the fire department arrived:

The two fire departments Türnitz and Lehenrotte were alerted by the St. Pölten area alarm center at 10:19 a.m. on Sunday to "rescue people (1-2 persons) after a traffic accident" and moved out to the scene just a few minutes later. Once there, however, it was soon established that the two 20-year-old occupants were able to free themselves from the vehicle. 

Delicate recovery and transportation to hospital
The Opel was then pulled back up the entire slope from the undergrowth, and part of the crash barrier also had to be removed. In the meantime, the dead dog, which unfortunately did not survive the fall in the car, was also rescued. 

The injured duo from the St. Pölten-Land district had to be taken to Lilienfeld Hospital by a Red Cross team accompanied by an emergency doctor.
