Mega traffic jam: truck loses trailer on the Fernpass

Due to a broken-down truck, the Fernpass road in the Tyrolean Außerfern had to be completely closed at times on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in long traffic jams. An articulated truck had lost its trailer, presumably due to a defect in the fifth wheel.

While one lane remained free at first, the road had to be completely closed for the clean-up work. The closure was lifted again in the afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after midday on a left-hand bend between Nassereith and Fernsteinsee. The semi-trailer loaded with aluminum scrap scrap scraped along the road wall and jammed with the drive axle of the tractor unit, according to the executive.

Material damage to the wall
According to a police spokeswoman, a second tow truck or a special crane had to be waited for to recover the trailer. This finally arrived at around 2.30 pm. During the subsequent clearing work, the Fernpass road was closed to traffic for around an hour. The traffic jam slowly dissipated after the closure was lifted. Material damage was caused to the wall, the asphalt and the vehicle. Nobody was injured.
