Man (27) caught by tree trunk during timber work

On Tuesday, a 27-year-old worker in Tyrol met his doom when a log came loose and trapped him. He suffered a serious injury. 

At around 7.40 a.m. on Tuesday, four Austrians (28, 28, 27 and 34) were working on timber in Fügenberg near the Spieljoch middle station.

A 34-year-old was operating the crane with which he was standing on the forest path to pull up the logs. He was assisted by a 28-year-old Austrian who freed the raised logs from the sling. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old and a 28-year-old were about 10 meters further down to attach the logs with a sling.

At the height of a crest up to the forest path, a tree trunk slipped out of the sling, slid back down and trapped the 27-year-old.

His work colleagues were able to free him and called the emergency services. The injured man was brought down to the valley by the mountain rescue team and flown to Schwaz District Hospital by the "Heli 4" rescue helicopter.

The 27-year-old suffered serious injuries to his foot as a result of the accident.
