Sniffer dog “Smokie” found missing girl in meadow

He is really "woof": Police service dog "Smokie" found a 14-year-old girl in Ried der Riedmark who had run away after an argument with her parents. The schoolgirl was sitting in a meadow.

A 14-year-old girl from Ried in der Riedmark left her parents' house at around 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday after problems at school and arguments with her parents. After the girl had not returned by 5.35 p.m. and the parents' search was unsuccessful, the police were alerted.

Scent near children's playground
After an intensive search in the vicinity of the house, a police dog was able to pick up a scent near a children's playground. There is dense ground cover and small paths around the playground, and it was clear from the dog's behavior that the scent of the wanted person was present. The service dog then jumped over a wooden picket fence onto a private property, crossed it and then jumped over another fence.

He then continued searching in an open meadow in the knee-high grass. After about 450 meters, the police dog found the 14-year-old girl sitting in the meadow. The somewhat frightened teenager was calmed down and was accompanied home by the service dog handler and his dog.
