Seriously injured! Hooligan attack on darts pro
Belgian darts pro Kim Huybrechts was the victim of a brutal hooligan attack on the fringes of the Belgian Cup final. The world number 32 suffered serious injuries and will require surgery.
Huybrechts is a passionate fan of Royal Antwerp and was therefore also a guest at the King Baudouin Stadium on Thursday for the cup final against Union Saint-Gilloise. There, he first witnessed his team's bitter 1-0 defeat and then became the victim of a brutal hooligan attack.
While the darts pro was on his way to the bus with other Antwerp fans after the game, the group was stopped by Union hooligans. An altercation ensued, as a result of which Huybrechts went down.
No more tournaments for a long time
But even when the 38-year-old was already on the ground, the attackers did not let go of him. They continued to punch and kick the Belgian. Only then did the hooligans run away. Passers-by finally helped the darts pro and called the emergency services.
Huybrechts was eventually taken to hospital. Examinations there revealed that he had suffered a double collarbone fracture in his right shoulder. The 38-year-old needs an operation and will be out of darts tournaments for a long time.
