Amazon.de is looking for thousands of employees in Erfurt
The online retail giant Amazon wants to create 2000 jobs in the German city of Erfurt by the end of the year. The people are to work in a new logistics center in the district of Stotternheim, which began operations on Monday, according to the company.
This week, 300 people will have their first working day there, and more than 1000 contracts have already been signed.
In future, 26 million smaller items are to be stored in the building, which covers an area of around nine soccer pitches. According to Amazon, it is one of the company's largest logistics locations in Germany. A three-digit million sum has been invested. Amazon already operates a distribution center in Erfurt in Thuringia with almost 300 employees and a logistics center in Gera with around 2,500 employees.
Irena Michel, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the Thuringia Central Employment Agency, commented on the establishment: "The creation of numerous jobs with low-threshold entry and the opportunity for unskilled people to find employment is a great success for our region."
