New York Rangers first team in the quarterfinals
The New York Rangers have become the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals in the North American Ice Hockey League (NHL). With a 4:2 win over the Washington Capitals, the Rangers secured a 4:0 victory in the play-off series and thus progressed.
Their next opponents will be either the Carolina Hurricanes or the New York Islanders, with the Hurricanes leading the series 3:1. The Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers are also on the verge of advancing.
The Canucks also hold a 3-1 lead in the play-off series after a 4-3 triumph over the Nashville Predators. Elias Lindholm scored the decisive goal, followed by Brock Boeser with a hat-trick. Valeri Nitschuschkin also scored three goals in the Colorado Avalanche's 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, giving Colorado a 3-1 lead in the series, as did the Edmonton Oilers, who celebrated a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
