St. Pölten’s women narrowly defeat Sturm Graz
Women's soccer champions SKN St. Pölten have taken the next step towards successfully defending their Bundesliga title with their twelfth win of the season. The Lower Austrians beat Sturm Graz 1-0 at home in the 14th round on Saturday and won without conceding a goal for the third time in a row.
Mateja Zver was the match-winner with her goal in the 51st minute. Earlier, a header by Valentina Mädl (40') was disallowed due to a foul.
The serial champions extended their lead over their closest rivals SPG SCR Altach/FFC Vorderland to seven points, at least for one day. The Vorarlberg side are in action on Sunday at home against Vienna. After that, there are four more rounds on the schedule. Diana Lemesova will almost certainly be missing for St. Pölten in these, especially as she had to be carried off the pitch injured shortly before the break.
