Verbund and its power plants in Kaprun can't get out of the headlines. Now the energy giant has to leave out its small reservoir.

More than 30,000 cubic meters of sedimentary rock have already been dredged from the Klammsee in Kaprun. But that was still far too little. Since the sluices of the two large Verbund reservoirs Mooser- and Wasserfallboden were opened, the deposits have been increasing. Now the energy company is pulling the ripcord and also opening the sluices of the gorge lake.

Since Wednesday, around 38 million liters of water have been drained from the gorge lake. However, according to Verbund, this should not further pollute the Kapruner Ache. The small mountain stream has reached its limits several times in recent weeks, the "Krone" reported.

Once the water has been drained, excavators will remove the material from the lake bed over the next four weeks. This should prevent the impending silting up of the reservoir. Sludge and sedimentary rock will be temporarily stored on a nearby agricultural meadow.
