Under the influence of drugs?
Man attacked neighbor in Vienna with a hammer
A 40-year-old man attacked and injured his neighbor with a hammer in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Thursday morning. The victim was taken to hospital but has already been discharged. No motive was initially apparent.
However, the 40-year-old is known to the police for drug-related offenses, which led to the suspicion that he had attacked his neighbor while under the influence of drugs. The incident occurred at around 10.45 a.m. when the attacker rang the doorbell of his neighbor's apartment. He opened the door, whereupon the 40-year-old put one foot in the crack and forced his way in. He then attacked the 33-year-old victim and punched the man several times. He was hit on the head and upper body with a hammer.
Victim was able to escape
The 33-year-old was able to escape from his apartment and alerted the police. In the meantime, the neighbor returned to his own apartment and smashed furniture such as vases. He also destroyed the hammer. The Vienna Emergency Response Unit (WEGA) arrived and repeatedly asked the man to come out of his apartment. When he did not comply, they forced their way in and arrested the man. He was banned from entering and approaching the house and a temporary weapons ban was issued.
The 40-year-old was still in police custody in the late afternoon. The people involved had not yet been questioned. The perpetrator is known to the police in connection with drug-related offenses.
