Youth report for 2023:
Salzburg’s youth see a more positive future again
The latest Akzente Salzburg Youth Report for 2023 shows a positive trend: 67 percent are optimistic about the future. Factors such as stress and pressure, war and rising prices are a cause for concern. Alarmingly, every second girl does not feel safe in public spaces.
3,170 young people between the ages of 12 and 20 took part in the online survey. "That's a record number of participants," says a delighted Daniela Wallinger from Akzente. Compared to the results of previous years, the trend is positive. Conclusion: "Young people are experiencing problems, but there is no doomsday mood," says Salzburg's youth officer Marlene Svazek (FPÖ).
The results in detail
67 percent of respondents have a rather or very positive view of the future. Family, health, fun and friends are particularly important to young people. Mental health is the top priority after the corona years. Salzburg's young people spend most of their free time with friends. Social media follows in second place.
Thirty-seven percent of participants expect much more from politics: in their opinion, the concerns of young people are not given enough consideration. Municipalities received a good report card: More than 70 percent feel rather or very comfortable in their home community.
Safety a critical issue for girls
Every second girl does not feel safe in public spaces and only 41% stated in the questionnaire that they had never been sexually harassed.
