"Standing far above us"
Far from high society despite high altitude
SZ Marswiese is aiming for the top three in Oberliga B - a club with a special proximity to its home ground.
SZ Marswiese have been playing in Oberliga B without interruption since their promotion in the 2014/15 season. The team from Hernals has climbed up the table from year to year, currently up to third place. The title fight would almost be the logical consequence of next year's anniversary, the tenth Oberliga season in a row.
But the air is slowly getting thinner, which is not because the Marswiese is the highest soccer pitch in Vienna: "We have been able to continuously improve so far, but now we are competing with clubs that are far above us financially," says coach Roman Hofstetter.
"One pitch. One team"
The location of the pitch in Neuwaldegg is inspiring: "Not because of the altitude, but because it is beautifully embedded in nature!" enthuses Hofstetter. It's not for nothing that the club motto is "One meadow. One team!"
