70 kilos of hashish found at mayor’s house
Oh la la! The handcuffs clicked for Jamilah Habsaoui, mayor of the small French town of Avallon. A whopping 70 kilograms of illegal hashish was found in her home. Were criminal brothers using her sister's house as a drug bunker?
In addition to Habsaoui, two of her brothers and four other suspects were arrested. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office in Auxerre on Sunday.
Brothers already known to the authorities
Is the mayor of the town of 6400 inhabitants in the heart of France a drug dealer? According to unanimous reports in the French media, the politician is more likely to have been unwittingly exploited by her brothers. As the newspaper "Le Parisien" reports, the consanguineous duo are said to have already come into conflict with the law in the past due to drug offenses.
In addition to the 70 kilos of hashish, a kilo of cocaine, 20 gold bars and 7,000 euros in suspected drug money were seized in the small town.
Large-scale drug raid
The delicate case came to light as part of a large-scale drug raid throughout the country. From Auxerre to Zoufftgen, exactly 7177 suspected drug dealers were taken off the streets within six months. In 482 raids, 3.6 tons of drugs, hundreds of weapons and 11.3 million euros in drug money were seized.
