Police checks
Easter weekend: Nine driving licenses are gone
A number of drink and drug drivers were stopped again over the Easter weekend. Even an L17 driver was reported to the police. A number of speeders also fell into the speed trap.
This year's Easter weekend was worse rather than better than last year. Around Easter, there were a total of five accidents in which six people were injured. Last year, there were four accidents with five injuries. In addition, a large number of drivers were again driving with a lead foot. The police counted 3858 reports or organ mandates for speeding, 400 more than in 2023.
Twelve drink and drug drivers
In addition, some drivers were again behind the wheel of their vehicles under the influence of alcohol. According to the executive, there were twelve drink and two drug drivers. Nine driving licenses were temporarily confiscated.
Planned square on Good Friday
During the nationwide planned square on Good Friday alone, 680 drivers had to undergo a check, 542 were also asked to take a breathalyzer test. Two drivers had more than 0.5 per mille and one was under the influence of drugs - his driver's license was confiscated on the spot.
Driving without a license
A 44-year-old man was also stopped in the Oberpullendorf district, who was no stranger to the officers. Just two days earlier, the man had been caught driving with more than a blood alcohol level and had to surrender his license. However, this did not stop him from getting back behind the wheel - until he was stopped again by the police. He was charged again.
Young driver charged
A young L17 driver from the district of Mattersburg was also charged. An alcohol test revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.18 per mille, the maximum permitted is 0.1 per mille. The police took the license plates off nine motorcycles. On closer inspection, technical modifications were found on the bikes.
Speed traps were also set up as part of the planned square: 782 drivers were reported.
