US-American Collins wins the Miami Open
Danielle Collins has beaten the favored Jelena Rybakina in the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. For the 30-year-old American, who won 7-5, 6-3 against the Kazakh on Saturday, it was her third title on the women's tennis tour and her first in three years. The current WTA number 53 had triumphed in Palermo and San Jose in 2021.
After 2:02 hours, Collins converted her fourth match point to win. On the way there, she fended off nine of her opponent's ten break points. Collins, who wants to end her career at the end of the season, was only the third unseeded player to reach a final in Miami.
In the men's final on Sunday, Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner from Italy and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will face each other. Sinner is the clear favorite.
