Pedersen to take part in Tour of Flanders after bad crash!
After the disastrous mass crash at the cycling half-classic "Across Flanders", co-favorite Mads Pedersen is planning to take part in the Tour of Flanders!
His team Lidl-Trek announced on Thursday that the 28-year-old will start at "De Ronde" on Sunday. However, his state of health will be closely monitored until then. Pedersen suffered bruises and abrasions in the high-speed crash on Wednesday and had to abandon the race.
Wout van Aert and Jasper Stuyven, who are also among the favorites for Sunday, were involved in the crash. The two Belgians have already undergone surgery in Herentals hospital and will be out of action for several weeks.
Fracture of the sternum not confirmed by Team Visma
Van Aert suffered a broken collarbone and several broken ribs. His team Visma did not confirm a fracture of the sternum that was reported in the Belgian media. It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will take part in this year's Giro d'Italia in May as planned or whether he will change his mind due to the injuries and start in the Tour de France after all.
Stuyven was diagnosed with a broken collarbone. The all-clear was given for Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermaché), who can start at the Tour of Flanders.
