Fatal accident on the A1 in the district of Melk (Lower Austria) on Friday night: a truck is believed to have collided with a special transporter between Melk and Pöchlarn. One person was killed in the crash and two others were injured. The highway had to be closed in the direction of Salzburg.
Sonja Kellner, spokesperson for the Lower Austrian Red Cross, confirmed the terrible crash on the Westautobahn on Friday morning. According to Kellner, three trucks were involved in the traffic accident. One of the two injured persons was taken to hospital, the second was treated on the spot.
Several emergency services on site
Four ambulances and an emergency ambulance were dispatched by the Red Cross. The district incident commander also attended. "Christophorus 2" was also requested, but was ultimately not deployed.
The closure of the A1 in the affected area is expected to last until 9 a.m., ORF reported. A signposted detour route has been set up. Several kilometers of traffic jams formed in the early morning traffic.
