2500 francs damage
Drunk driver (76) mowed down fence and fled
Age is no defense against folly - as William Shakespeare once said in "Antony and Cleopatra". This wisdom has apparently not yet spread to neighboring Wattwil (canton of St. Gallen). With enough alcohol in his blood, a 76-year-old man got behind the wheel there on Sunday afternoon - and promptly crashed into a fence.
Without paying any further attention to the damage, which amounted to around 2,500 francs, the drunk driver fled the scene of the accident. However, the senior citizen had not reckoned with the police. When they were called in the evening, they discovered that a car driver had demolished the fence. The car and its driver were quickly found.
Alcohol test was far too high
The senior citizen had apparently intended to park in front of one of the neighboring houses, but had gone astray. The police took a breath test, which showed a value that was far too high, and took a blood sample. The driver's license will probably be gone for some time.
