Hiker (23) fell 70 meters into the forest

A hike for a German (23) in Pettneu am Arlberg ended with serious injuries. The man lost his footing in steep terrain and fell around 70 meters. He and his colleague had probably been drinking too much beforehand.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon shortly before 6 pm. According to the police, the 23-year-old German had "drunk plenty of beer" with his compatriot (24) at a campsite. They then went on a hike in the direction of "Malfontal".

Left the forest path
At the entrance to the valley, the two initially walked east along a forest path. When there was more and more snow on the path and it became difficult for them to continue, they decided to descend directly through the steep forest.

The 23-year-old suddenly lost his footing on the steep and wet ground and fell around 60 to 70 meters over rocky terrain. He rolled over and came to rest next to a fallen tree.

To hospital by helicopter
His companion made the emergency call. The seriously injured man was first treated at the scene of the accident and then taken to Zams Hospital by emergency helicopter.
