Fire set: Heavy smoke in apartment building

Unpleasant things happen time and again that require the emergency services and cause damage to property, so it is all the more annoying and incomprehensible when a not at all funny joke triggers such an operation - as happened late on Saturday evening in Klagenfurt.

A woman noticed heavy smoke in the stairwell of an apartment building in the St. Ruprecht district of Klagenfurt and alerted the professional fire department at 9.40 pm.

The emergency services were only able to enter the basement, where a wooden rocking chair had been set on fire in a compartment, with heavy breathing protection. They extinguished the flames and ventilated the stairwell.

The amount of damage to the wooden chair and the cellar door has not yet been estimated.
