Man falls into the depths during woodwork – dead

A fatal accident occurred on Sunday in Montafon, Vorarlberg. A 68-year-old man was doing woodwork when he slipped in a steep section of forest and fell 40 meters. All help came too late for the man.

The 68-year-old local man was working alone in a wooded area in the Montafon municipality of Gaschurn at around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon on very steep terrain. The police assume that the man fell in the forest, which is located in the district of Außerböfa, while loosening a three-meter-long tree trunk with a so-called "handsappie".

As a result, the 68-year-old fell around 40 meters through the steeply sloping forest, sustaining fatal head injuries.
