Several people were injured in an explosion at a five-storey residential building in the Russian metropolis of St. Petersburg on Saturday. Local media reported that a drone had detonated. Governor Alexander Beglov spoke only of an "incident" and promised help to the residents of the damaged apartments.

Six people had sought medical help, the authorities said. A 92-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

Psychologists on duty
Other residents were accommodated in a kindergarten. Psychologists were also deployed to support those affected, it was reported. Videos showing and hearing a heavy explosion were circulated on social networks.

Possible attack on oil storage facility in St. Petersburg
There was no comment from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The St. Petersburg news portal "Fontanka" reported that the drone may have targeted a nearby oil storage facility. A drone defense system was also deployed there.

St. Petersburg has hardly been hit by missiles so far in the two-year war in Ukraine. However, Ukraine has stated that the range of its drones is increasing.

Deaths in Russian drone attacks on Odessa
A few hours earlier, Russian drone attacks on the Ukrainian city of Odessa were reported in which at least two people were killed.

In its defensive campaign against its neighbor's invasion, Ukraine is also repeatedly attacking targets in the Russian hinterland. The aim is to disrupt the supply of Russian troops, for example.

Counterattacks in border regions and inland
The Russian border regions are particularly affected by the Ukrainian counter-attacks. However, targets deeper inside the country were also hit. Of course, the damage is in no way comparable to the daily Russian attacks on Ukraine, which bring death and destruction to the country.
