Instead of balls, fists were flying: a mass brawl involving around 20 people broke out at an indoor soccer tournament in the Schärding district sports hall in Upper Austria on Saturday afternoon. Two of the brawlers even had to be treated in hospital.

Instead of settling their differences on the pitch, two soccer teams let their fists do the talking in Schärding at around 2.50 pm on Saturday. The six Romanians and six Turks are said to have insulted each other first, then the fists followed.

Visitors also involved
But it wasn't just the athletes who were involved in the brawl, visitors to the tournament - there are said to have been several hundred of them on site - also got involved, according to the police. In the end, around 20 people got into a fight, two were injured and had to be treated as outpatients in hospital.

The tournament is said to have been the IKV (Islamic Cultural Association) indoor tournament.
