Collision: Pensioner skidded into a ditch

There was a collision in Deutschlandsberg on Saturday afternoon: a 78-year-old driver collided with a 62-year-old man while turning. Both parties involved and a passenger had to be taken to hospital.

It was around 3.45 p.m. when a 62-year-old man from Deutschlandsberg was driving his car along the L 606 towards Frauental. What he didn't expect: at a junction in Wildbach, a 78-year-old driver turned into the road and crossed his lane. This resulted in a crash - the 78-year-old was thrown into the ditch with his car.

Three people taken to hospital
Rescue, police and fire department rushed to the scene. Both parties involved in the accident, including a female passenger, were taken to West Styria Regional Hospital (Deutschlandsberg site). While the 62-year-old was uninjured, the 78-year-old sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalized.

The Wildbach volunteer fire department was deployed with four vehicles and fourteen men - they had to free the injured from the cars. The L 606 had to be temporarily closed to recover the vehicles. Neither driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
