Drunken wrong-way driver grabbed a police weapon

Police stopped a wrong-way driver (53) from Slovenia on Sunday evening in Spielfeld (Styria) just before the border. During the check, he was uncooperative and even reached for an officer's weapon. As a result, he was arrested - the alcohol test showed more than two per mille.

Shortly after 8.15 p.m., the 53-year-old Slovenian was apprehended on the A9 near Spielfeld after a truck driver alerted police officers at the border checkpoint to the wrong-way driver. The man was driving his car on the highway against the prescribed direction of travel towards Slovenia in heavy traffic. When he stopped shortly before the border checkpoint and wanted to turn back, police officers carried out a driver and vehicle check.

More than 2 per mille alcohol in his blood
The 53-year-old was uncooperative and refused to show his documents. When the man then tried to grab an officer's weapon during the check, police officers arrested the Slovenian. A breathalyzer test subsequently carried out on the driver revealed that he was heavily intoxicated with more than two per mille. As a result, it was not possible to question the man for the time being.

Further investigations revealed that the 53-year-old did not have a driving license. This had already been withdrawn from him in Slovenia. He will be charged with several offenses, including resisting law enforcement.
