A serious traffic accident occurred on Sunday morning at a level crossing in Kirchdorf an der Krems in Upper Austria. A car was hit by a train. The wrecked car got stuck vertically between a water culvert and a cable bridge. One person was injured.

The accident happened on Sunday morning at a level crossing where the Ertlstraße crosses the Pyhrnbahn. A car was hit by a regional train at the railroad crossing, which is secured with traffic lights. One person was trapped
The fire and rescue services had to free one person from the wreckage. After receiving initial emergency medical treatment, the person was taken to hospital. The subsequent recovery of the accident vehicle was also difficult.

Power cut-off
For the recovery operation, not only the overhead line but also a power supply line had to be switched off. Due to the leakage of operating fluids into the culvert of the local stream - the Neupernsteinergraben - numerous environmental measures were also necessary. Oil barriers were erected and a suction truck was ordered to the scene.

Five fire departments in action
The fire department was also deployed with a drone for documentation on behalf of ÖBB, and a total of at least five fire departments were deployed.

Rail replacement service was set up
The Ertlstraße is currently closed and the Pyhrnbahn line is interrupted in the area of the incident between Micheldorf in Upper Austria railroad station and Kirchdorf an der Krems railroad station. "A rail replacement service has been set up for suburban and regional trains, long-distance trains are waiting for the closure for the time being," says ÖBB.
