Vintage Tour Danube
Wachau becomes a meeting place for steel legends
The artfully connected frames from legendary forges such as Colnago, Bianchi, Moser, Puch and RIH are a feast for the eyes. Too good to just look at them. At the Vintage Tour Donau on September 8, collectors can ride their favorite steel bikes together with other bike enthusiasts. This year's motto: Oldies but Goldies!
In keeping with the motto, a group of cyclists from Wr. Neustadt will be cranking along on bikes from the 1930s and 1940s. With thick balloon tires, one gear and stamp brakes, they have already ridden the famous Eroica.
The Vintage Tour Donau presented by the "Krone" is open to bikes built in 1990 and earlier, and a technical inspection takes place before the start. Then it's off on two wonderful routes of 65 and 95 km respectively, which lead along roads with little traffic, cellar lanes and vineyard paths. Some kilometers are also classic on gravel.
From the start and finish in Rohrendorf, the route passes Gobelsburg Castle and Göttweig Abbey. And of course there are also refreshment stations on both routes, with vegan food also waiting at the finish line in addition to the classic schnitzel.
In addition to steel classics, heroes from the past will also be taking part: former Tour starter Rene Haselbacher will be cycling along with Hans Lienhart and Bernhard Rassinger. The bronze winner of the 1987 World Championships is also the organizer of the Vintage Tour Donau: "Because it's close to my heart!"
Fantastic weather is on the cards for September 8, and late entries are still possible on Sunday from 7 a.m. at the start and finish area in Rohrendorf. Further information can be found at www.vintage-tour.at.
