71-year-old seriously injured during mowing work

A farmer in Außerbraz (Vorarlberg) suffered serious head injuries when he tried to pull a transport vehicle up a slope with a tractor.

A work accident occurred in Außerbraz on Friday. At around 10 a.m., a 71-year-old farmer and his son wanted to bring in hay with agricultural equipment on a section of a meadow that was about 30 degrees steep. In order to pull a transport vehicle up the steep section, the two attached a pulley to an anchor bolt fixed in a rock.

When they tried to pull the transport vehicle up with a rope pulled by a tractor, the anchor bolt broke. The pulley was thrown towards the transport vehicle by the resulting tension.

Pulley smashed through the windshield
There it first hit the vehicle and then smashed through the windshield. The 71-year-old was hit in the head and seriously injured. After first aid, the farmer had to be flown by emergency helicopter to the regional hospital in Feldkirch.
