Car chase in Vienna – several officers injured

A driver who tried to evade a police check in Vienna-Mariahilf on Saturday night was arrested after a chase and after ramming a police car and injuring several officers. A small quantity of narcotics was found on the man and seized. 

Officers from the Josefstadt municipal police department had become aware of the man because he kept sounding the horn of his vehicle for no apparent reason. They asked him to get out of the car, whereupon he drove off.

Pursuit with blue lights and siren
He was pursued with his blue lights and siren on, whereupon he accelerated his vehicle. He was finally stopped on Mariahilfer Straße. Despite several requests to leave the vehicle, the 51-year-old refused and stepped on the gas pedal again. Two officers, who were outside their police car, had to jump to the side to avoid being hit by the car.

However, the 51-year-old did not get far. He rammed into a police car containing a female officer and an officer and came to a standstill. The two officers were injured and were unable to continue their duties. The 51-year-old was provisionally arrested for resisting law enforcement and other offenses. Another police officer was slightly injured.
