Fire alarm in an inn: mattress on fire

An incipient fire was detected early in Villach. 30 men from two fire departments were able to prevent the worst.

On Saturday, July 6, shortly after 4 p.m., the Villach City Fire Brigade Control Center received a report of smoke developing in a room on the second floor of an inn in the St. Ruprecht district of Villach.  

Within a very short time, a fire engine from the Villach main fire station was deployed together with the Vassach fire department and the local St. Ruprecht fire department. 30 men were deployed.

Fire department: "Fortunately, no people in the apartment"
After a brief investigation in the affected apartment by the breathing apparatus unit from the main fire station, a mattress and comforter that were still smouldering were identified as the cause of the smoke.

"Fortunately, there were no people in the apartment at the time," reports Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the Villach main fire station.

The mattress was taken outside and then extinguished completely. The dangerous smoke from the fire was blown out of the apartment using two high-performance fans. A larger fire was prevented. The Villach police are investigating the cause of the fire.
