Cyclist (41) lay dead in the ditch early in the morning

A terrible discovery was made early Friday morning in the Vorarlberg Bodensee municipality of Hard. A man lay dead under his bicycle in a ditch not far from the Rhine. The man had been out with work colleagues the previous evening.

At 5.28 a.m., the Hard police station received a report that a person and a bicycle were lying in the grassy and sloping ditch near the Hammerl bakery.

Tragically, this information turned out to be true. On the scene, the emergency services found the bicycle lying on the feet of a 41-year-old man who was no longer showing any signs of life. 

Police assume an accident
Initial investigations revealed that the man had been at the Höchster soccer pitch with work colleagues on Thursday evening and had left the pitch alone on his bike at around 10 pm. The police are currently assuming a fatal fall from a bicycle through no fault of his own and investigations are ongoing.
