Speeding through roadworks at 73 km/h

Two test license holders were apparently in a hurry on the south freeway on Sunday evening. The 19-year-olds were speeding along at significantly excessive speeds. But the consequences were not long in coming. 

Traffic police officers noticed two drivers driving next to each other and making hand signals on the Südautobahn (A2) near Krumpendorf at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. "They then lined up one behind the other in the second lane and accelerated to 163 km/h in the 130 km/h speed limit," says an officer.

Even at the beginning of the roadworks entrance, where the speed limit is actually 100 km/h, the two drivers did not slow down, but sped along at the same speed. "In the 80 km/h restriction in the roadworks area, the speed was then reduced to 153 km/h, which meant that they were exceeding the speed limit by 73 km/h," said a police officer.

The speeders, two 19-year-old probationary license holders from the district of Spittal an Drau, had their driving licenses confiscated on the spot and both cars were impounded. They were taken away by a towing company.
