Squad place lost
Salzburg native steps down from the big ski stage
The Salzburg alpine skier Sabrina Maier is ending her career. The reason is the loss of her place in the Austrian Ski Association squad. The resignation is the logical consequence of this.
Sabrina Maier had made it back into the Ski World Cup once again. However, things did not go according to plan last season, with the Saalbach native only finishing in the top 30 four times. She will no longer have a place in the ÖSV squad for 2024/25. Maier therefore drew a line under her career.
It is the logical consequence. It wouldn't be financially and organizationally viable for me to do it all myself

"It's the logical consequence. It wouldn't be sustainable for me to do it all myself financially and organizationally (coach, service staff, etc.)," emphasizes the speed specialist, whose best result was 17th place in a World Cup race.
"Not always easy, but nice"
The 29-year-old Maier feels gratitude above all. On the one hand, for the constant support from her family and sponsors. But also "that I was able to turn my passion into a career until I was almost 30 years old." Ultimately, however, the feeling remains that there was more in it. "I don't think I was able to reach my full potential," said Maier, who struggled with serious injuries for many years. And concludes by saying, "It wasn't always easy, but it was a great time."
