Judo: Lubjana Piovesana fifth at European Championships in Zagreb

Hohenems judoka Lubjana Piovesana narrowly missed out on her first European Championship medal for Austria in the 63 kg category at the European Championships in Zagreb! 

After a successful hope round following a quarter-final defeat, Piovesana was defeated in the bronze medal match by her Slovenian "fear opponent" Andreja Leski in a golden score by Ippon. That meant fifth place for the Austrian, who was naturalized in 2023, and a 6:0 win for Leski in the direct duel.

"That wasn't a score for me. The fight should have gone on," said the athlete. "I'll get my first medal at a major event for Austria at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi in May or, even better, at the end of July at the Olympics in Paris."
