Father in France killed his young children

A man in France has confessed to killing his two young children. The bodies of the three-year-old girl and one-year-old boy were discovered in a field, the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday.

This was around 40 kilometers south of Paris. According to the public prosecutor's office, the man apparently tried to take his own life in his car after the murder. "He survived and claimed to have killed his two children." The father had told the police where to find the bodies. No details about the background to the crime were initially given.

Similar case around Christmas
There have been several cases in the Paris region in recent months in which children were apparently killed by their parents. For example, a 33-year-old man is accused of killing his wife and their four children shortly before Christmas.

According to the child protection organization Voix de l'Enfant (Voice of the Child), more than 60 children were killed by their parents last year.
