Without panic to the new number 1 in Vienna

After their 14:9 victory in the AFL derby against champions Danube Dragons, the Vienna Vikings footballers are top of the league and in euphoria. Head coach Benjamin Sobotka: "We're taking it week by week, want to fight our way into the Austrian Bowl and ultimately to the title."

Almost 2000 fans. A very exciting, entertaining game. And celebrating Vikings at the end - yes, the first football derby of the season immediately whetted the appetite for more.

The Vienna Vikings won the AFL clash with champions Dragons 14:9, taking revenge for losing the 2023 Austrian Bowl on the Donaufeld pitch. Head coach Benjamin Sobotka was clearly delighted: "Our defense played really good football - that was the deciding factor. Then the offense also got into the game." The fact that it took until the finish before Florian Wegan scored a touchdown to make it 12:9 and Fabian Eder scored a two-point conversion to win 14:9? "Even though we struggled for a long time: We're not a team that panics, we've practiced such situations a lot."

Dragons coach Fred Armstrong said: "It was a really good game, the atmosphere was great, despite the defeat, during which ex-Dragon Johannes Kain, aka "GUILTY", delighted the crowd with his rap skills at half-time. We had our chances, but didn't manage to bring about the decision. The Vikings took theirs."

The Vikings also won the first duel last season. In the end, they still finished runners-up and the Dragons had a big championship party.
