Due to zigzag course
Border with Liechtenstein to be reorganized
The border between Austria and Liechtenstein is to be redrawn. Around 240 square meters of land are to be exchanged, as the current border line runs through Lake Egelsee and "the course of the state border is no longer recognizable."
The corresponding law is currently being reviewed in Vorarlberg. Only then can the new state treaty be concluded. The border between Austria and Liechtenstein is around 35 kilometers long. The regulated Esche stream marks the border in sections, including in the area of the Egelsee, which belongs to the town of Feldkirch on the Austrian side.
This is a retention pond that was created between 2011 and 2013 to improve flood safety. The current border now zigzags through the lake. The new boundary is intended to remedy this. Around 240 square meters of soil will be replaced at a time.
Terrain strip becomes narrower
In addition, the strip of land that has to be kept clear will only have to be one meter wide in future instead of the previous ten meters. This will bring advantages for the owners of the affected properties, it was said. Liechtenstein is around 35 kilometers long and has around 40,000 inhabitants.
