ÖFB gala: The press is harsh on the Turks

While Austria is already looking forward to the EURO, Turkey suffered a severe setback with the 1:6 debacle against the ÖFB team on Tuesday evening. The newspaper "Hurriyet" even speaks of a "historic defeat".

The daily newspapers are harsh on the Turkish players. No wonder, as hardly any of the players in the 6-1 defeat against the Austrians at the Ernst Happel Stadium came close to fulfilling their potential.

"Completely destroyed"
In its 101-year history (624 games), Turkey lost for the 15th time with a difference of five or more goals, reports "Sözcü". "Turkey, who drew attention to themselves during the game by losing the ball, especially when trying to get out of defense with short passes, were completely destroyed by the goal they conceded at the beginning of the second half and could no longer avoid defeat," writes the medium.

Montella investigates the causes

Calhanoglu impressed by the ÖFB team
Turkey star Hakan Calhanoglu was impressed by the Austrian national team. "It's not easy to play against Austria because they play a high pressing game," said the Inter player. He has high hopes for Laimer, Baumgartner and Co. at the European Championship in two and a half months' time.
