Female walker (79) hit by felled tree

During forestry work in the municipality of Techelsberg am Wörthersee, a walker was hit by a felled tree on Saturday afternoon. The woman had suddenly appeared in the forest.

The two men (34 and 35) were busy felling a 25-meter-high pine tree at around 1.40 pm and had made the last saw cuts in the felling cut. Beforehand, they had looked around to make sure that there were no people or potential hazards.

But as the tree fell, a woman suddenly emerged from a group of trees. The two men shouted to the 79-year-old that the tree was falling, whereupon the woman ran a few meters in the direction of the fall. She was hit by a branch of the pine tree and seriously injured. The two men immediately administered first aid and called the emergency services. After initial medical treatment, the 79-year-old woman was flown to Klagenfurt Hospital in the C11 rescue helicopter. The Töschling fire department supported the rescue operation with 18 people.
