Woman fell under a machine axe while splitting wood

A 49-year-old woman suffered serious injuries on Monday afternoon in Aspach in Upper Austria when one of her hands fell under the machine's axe while splitting wood. Her mother provided first aid. The daughter was flown to Salzburg University Hospital.

A 49-year-old woman from Aspach was splitting wood with her mother at around 2.50 p.m. on Monday. The 49-year-old was operating a wood splitting machine, the axe of which is triggered by a foot pedal. When trying to split a piece of wood, unknown complications arose, whereupon the woman reached with her hand towards the log or axe.

Mother provided first aid
Her mother immediately administered first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. The seriously injured woman was taken to Salzburg University Hospital by rescue helicopter C6.
