Fire department rescues dog “Luna” after traffic accident

When there was a crash at an intersection near the Villach-Faaker See highway exit on Tuesday evening, the first thing that came to mind was a trapped person. But the fire department also had to rescue a furry friend ...

Two cars had collided at the intersection of Faakerseestraße B84 and the highway exit for as yet unexplained reasons. At first, it was suspected that one person was trapped. "When our technical train arrived at the scene, the initial investigation revealed that three people were still in the vehicles," explains Chief Fire Officer Alexander Scharf from Villach main fire station. "Fortunately, none of the occupants were trapped."

While the people were being treated by the emergency services, one of them asked the fire department to look after "Luna". The dog was also one of the occupants. "There was a small dog in one of the vehicles, hiding under the front seat," Scharf continues. "Together, a policewoman and a firefighter were able to free the animal from its position unharmed."

Because her owners were hospitalized, the little Maltese dog "Luna" needed a place to stay. "Daniel Struckl, a firefighter from Villach main fire station, agreed to take "Luna" in overnight with him and his partner," says Scharf. The HFW Villach and the Perau and Maria Gail volunteer fire departments carried out the clean-up work and secured the accident site.
