Skier fell 20 meters down a steep slope

A skiing accident on the Stubai Glacier in Tyrol left one person seriously injured on Thursday. A 40-year-old Slovakian had to be flown to hospital by helicopter.

The day's skiing had only just begun when an accident occurred on a blue-marked piste at around 9.15 am: According to the police, the 40-year-old Slovakian wanted to slow down and fell. He then went over the edge of the piste and fell over a steep slope into the open ski area, where he came to rest after around 20 meters. 

Witnesses to the accident gave the skier first aid and alerted the emergency services. The emergency helicopter then flew the seriously injured man to Innsbruck University Hospital.
