Six people injured in campfire explosion

What should have been a relaxed barbecue in the Mühlviertel region ended in hospital for six people. On Friday evening, there was a violent explosion at the group's campfire, in which two people were seriously injured. The exact cause is now being investigated by an expert.

A balmy midsummer evening, a campfire in the shade of the Brandegg ruins near Schönau im Mühlkreis, barbecued food - what sounds like a picture-book evening suddenly took a dramatic turn for six people on Friday evening when the campfire suddenly exploded!

Without any warning
Without warning, a loud bang ripped through the quiet summer night, sending food, pieces of stone and surrounding material flying through the air. All six people sitting around the fire were injured, two of them seriously. The seriously injured were taken to the Linz UKH, two slightly injured to Medcampus Drei and two others to Freistadt Hospital.

Four rescues, one emergency doctor
A 30-year-old woman from Linz, a 31-year-old man from Enns, a 34-year-old man from Au, a 48-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman from St. Pölten and a 50-year-old man from Wartberg ob der Aist were treated by four rescue teams and an emergency doctor and distributed to the three hospitals.
