200 years of being equipped against all kinds of crises

Wiener Städtische Versicherung hosted an anniversary reception at the St. Peter Stiftskulinarium on Thursday.

"During my active time as a sportsman, I was mostly a single-payer. But I prefer to pay into the insurance instead of having to take something out," jokes former ski racer Michael Walchhofer. So he also had reason to celebrate at the reception to mark 200 years of Wiener Städtische Versicherung at the St. Peter Stiftskulinarium.

Being and staying fit seems to be a major concern for Salzburgers in general. This is shown by the growth in premiums. Healthcare developed particularly well. "Health is absolutely the most important thing. That's why we have very good health insurance, also with regard to our children," say bestselling author Hera Lind and her husband Engelbert Lainer.

Another insurance sector also recorded growth last year: more and more people are protecting themselves against damage to property, for example due to fire or storms.

The fact that nature has been acting up a lot recently is likely to keep insurers increasingly busy in the coming years. Wiener Städtische paid out EUR 160 million to its policyholders throughout Austria in 2023 alone. This was the second-highest figure in the company's 200-year history.
