Hip injury! Sinner cancels participation in Rome
Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner announced his withdrawal from the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome on Saturday.
The Italian suffered a hip injury in Madrid and withdrew from the tournament before his quarter-final against Felix Auger-Aliassime. Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, another top three player, had already withdrawn from Rome.
"It's not easy to write this news, but after discussions with my doctors and specialists about my hip problems, I unfortunately won't be able to play in Rome," the 22-year-old world number two announced via social networks on Saturday. It makes him particularly sad because he would have loved to play in front of his home crowd again.
The South Tyrolean naturally hopes that he will be able to recover before the French Open in Paris, which begins on May 26.
