Explosion in garage: man seriously injured
In Markersdorf near Neulengbach in the district of St. Pölten (Lower Austria), a man was seriously injured in an explosion in a garage. He was flown to Vienna General Hospital by emergency helicopter.
A man was working on an off-road vehicle in a garage on Wednesday evening when there was a sudden explosion. According to the police, the man had been working with an angle grinder in an assembly pit. It is likely that flying sparks caused a mixture of petrol and oil in a barrel to ignite and form an explosive jet of flame.
According to initial information, the 53-year-old was able to extinguish the fire himself and leave the garage. However, the man is believed to have been seriously injured at the scene of the accident.
Flown to hospital by helicopter
The emergency services alerted provided first aid at the scene and fought for the life of the man, who suffered burns in the explosion. An emergency helicopter flew the seriously injured man to Vienna General Hospital.
The local fire department carried out a thorough inspection of the fire room to rule out any further dangers. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
